Craftsmanship & Details
The Old Village is built with 1⅝" × 1⅝" premium Southern Yellow Pine for the signature double-X back braces, giving the swing its distinctive, farmhouse-inspired silhouette. Arm supports are crafted from 1×5½" Southern Yellow Pine, topped with a 3½" solid oak armrest that provides a beautiful natural contrast and a comfortable, wide resting surface. Our signature 4×4 posts (actual size 3½" × 3½") are specially ordered from a local sawmill — premium Southern Yellow Pine surfaced on all four sides for a smooth, furniture-quality finish. The frame is constructed from 1½" × 4½" Southern Yellow Pine or Douglas Fir, providing exceptional strength and stability. Oak armrests and cedar post caps complete the build, chosen for their natural resistance to moisture, decay, and insects in the Lowcountry's demanding coastal climate.
The Old Village is built using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery — one of the strongest woodworking techniques available. Because Charleston's humid climate causes wood to naturally expand and contract throughout the seasons, we reinforce every joint with 6-inch structural lag screws at each corner. This combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern engineering ensures every swing remains solid, square, and wobble-free for years to come.
The substantial 3½" × 3½" custom-milled posts, topped with handcrafted cedar caps, give the Old Village Swing its bold architectural presence. Front posts measure 18 inches tall; rear posts extend to 26 inches. We finish every Old Village Swing with Sherwin-Williams® FORTE® Exterior Acrylic Urethane — engineered to resist fading, peeling, cracking, and blistering in the intense Lowcountry sun and humidity. Black or white is included; any custom Sherwin-Williams color is available for an additional $100.

We use Sherwin-Williams Forte™ paint — a premium, urethanized acrylic coating designed for exterior use. Black or white paint is included. Any additional color is (+$100).

Do you deliver and install in the Charleston area?
